CAFÉ INK WINS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR SERVICES TO PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY

Café Ink has been awarded the prestigious 2010 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Award of Excellence, announced at the Great Hall of Parliament House this evening.

The Awards are a public acknowledgement of the achievements of business, organisations and individuals who have demonstrated a clear commitment to include people with a disability in their workplace, business and/or community. The ACT Excellence in Inclusion Awards honour those who have clearly demonstrated outstanding commitment to people with disabilities through leadership, innovation and collaboration.

In a message from the ACT Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope congratulated all award nominees and thanked sponsors for their leadership and commitment to the event. “The Awards are a part of the ACT Government’s vision for creating an inclusive Canberra by which we mean fostering cohesion and addressing entrenched disadvantage – the vision is about Canberrans connecting and belonging within the community and working together so no one is left behind” he said.

“It is gratifying that the nominations received exemplify the high quality and innovative work being carried out across the city and the region. Again, I congratulate all nominees, and those that had the foresight to nominate them.”

Around 400 people attended the Awards hosted by Effie (Mary Coustas). Guest artists included deaf pianist James Kearney who graduated from the ANY School of Music as well as artist Dr Possum akaChristopher McLauchlan, who has Austism and graduated form the ANU School of Art.
